Acupuncture
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient form of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves the insertion of fine sterile disposable needles into selected acupuncture points of the body. These points are located along channels of energy, called meridians, which run through the body and over its surface. Meridians are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues. An obstruction in the movement of these rivers is like a dam that backs up into others causing symptoms, pain and disease.
Sarah Gandey , Doctor of Acupuncture at BodyTx Massage, Acupuncture and Health, and has completed additional training at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is also accredited with a Physical & Occupational Therapy Assistant Diploma and specializes in fertility, women's health, and sports medicine.
Acupuncture Points
Acupuncture Points
Acupuncture points are located on areas of the skin that have a lower resistance to the passage of electricity than surrounding tissue and they make up a complete network system similar to the nervous system.
Acupuncture is used to promote the body's natural healing, improve mood and energy, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. Acupuncture is a safe and effective therapy and can give relief when traditional medical therapy has failed.
Acupuncture Needles
Acupuncture Needles
Acupuncture needles are very fine, flexible and sharp at the tip. They are very different from a hypodermic needle (these are used for injections, etc) as they do not have a cutting edge which slices through tissue. Acupuncture needles are designed to glide through tissues and makes them unlikely to cause bleeding or damage to underlying structures.

Acupuncture is a very effective treatment in conjunction with fertility treatments. It can treat conditions that can interfere with getting pregnant (such as endometriosis) or increase the chances of successful assisted fertility treatments. Acupuncture can also help lower overall stress levels, which can help increase fertility hormones like progesterone. Sarah has had numerous success stories with her acupuncture treatments!
Acupuncture offers a safe, effective and drug free treatment option during pregnancy. It can help treat nausea during pregnancy, musculoskeletal pain, and hypertension. Acupuncture can also be used for breech and/or posterior babies, labour preparation (35-38 weeks), induction(38+ weeks), and pain relief during labour. Postnatal acupuncture involves care for conditions such as insufficient lactation, wound healing and scar tissue repair, postpartum support and urinary incontinence.

Sports medicine acupuncture combines traditional Chinese medicine and western sports medicine to effectively treat and manage injuries from the initial assessment through treatment and rehabilitation and onto injury prevention.
Women's Health
Women's Health
Acupuncture is a natural therapy that can assist with women’s health issues, by treating the whole body and uncovering underlying root causes of symptoms. Women may experience symptoms such as PMS, endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding, painful periods, bloating, mood swings, and absent periods. She also works with women in peri-menopause and menopause. Sarah can work with you to rebalance the body by reducing stress and balancing hormones and the endocrine system via acupuncture, cupping therapy, moxibustion, and Chinese herb suggestions.
