Acupuncture Follow Up

What should I do (or not do) after my first appointment?

Rest, avoid exercise if possible, and if exercising, only exercise moderately. Eat healthy nourishing foods; avoid heavy, greasy or processed food. Acupuncture continues to work 24-48 hours after the treatment.  This is all to make sure you feel your best after treatment. You may feel tired or you may feel energized.

When will it start to work?

Chinese medicine is retraining the body. Some people and conditions tend to respond to acupuncture pretty quickly and some take time. Sometimes we get it right at the first appointment, and you’ll feel relief quickly. Sometimes it takes a couple of sessions to get to the core of the issues, and then we start to see progress. If the problem is chronic and long standing it can take longer. Acupuncture works accumulatively after each treatment and results start lasting longer and longer.

How often should I come?

It is helpful to understand that you can utilize Chinese medicine/acupuncture in one of two ways: as a band-aid / quick fix, or as a way to get to the root of a problem and heal more deeply. It's truly alright to use it whatever way you wish, but know Chinese medicine really shines when it is used to really heal and change the landscape of the body.

It depends if we are doing a quick fix or really fixing the problem, but generally I start clients out on a once per week schedule, and then start spreading treatments out as soon as we start seeing changes happening and results are lasting about a week’s time (moving to once per two weeks, then once per month, etc). In the long term, expect to require tune-ups once or twice a year!

What you can expect from Sarah?

It is very important to me that you be here only if I really feel I can help you. I will be completely honest about this with you at all times. It is impossible to predict how or if someone will respond to treatment, but I will generally have an idea within a few sessions if you’re going to be a good candidate for continued care. As far as continued care, I will space out your appointments as much as possible for you to receive the accumulated benefits of Chinese medicine.

Practicing Chinese medicine with integrity is extremely important to me, and YOU are extremely important to me. When you come to BodyTx Massage and Health, it is your time to relax. Know that I will always listen to you, and if you ever need anything while you are here (quieter music, no music, to be warmer, water or anything) all you have to do is ask. Your comfort is paramount!
